Buttercross Art Society in Witney, Oxfordshire was established in May 2009 by nine friends who had been attending Art Classes together for some years.
We opened with a talk and demonstration of Art from the Renaissance Period till the present day by Adian Meller of the Meller Merceux Art Galleries. We have interesting artists demonstrating and giving us workshops regularly. Amongst them were some very well known artists like, Trevor Waugh, Dee Cowell, Anouk Naumann, Ella Clocksin, Robin Hepworth, Terry Harrison, Fiona Peart, Nick Baldwin, Ella Clocksin and Max Hale to name a few. These celebrities who enjoy promoting their own particular media, materials (amongst which Acrylics, Inks, Water Colour, Pastels, Graphite, Coloured Pencils, Charcoal and general mixed media apply) have proven to be very helpful with their encouragement to harness our courage, overcoming any hesitations we might have and keen for us to relax experiment , enjoy and have fun. We received a grant for the first three years from the West Oxfordforshire District Council and also a one year grant from the Town Council. In 2012, Waitrose Community Matters Scheme raised £267. Why not join us one evening and learn what we are all about. There is usually a demonstration or a talk by a professional artist. The annual Membership subscription fee is £30. Visitors are welcome and the charge for the evening is £4. Workshops are arranged for members and they are individually priced. |
